What is Excessive Underarm Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)?

  • Imagine you’re just sitting and relaxing, but your underarms are sweating a lot, even though you’re not hot or exercising. This is what happens to people with a condition called hyperhidrosis.

What Causes It?

  • Your body has sweat glands to help cool you down when you’re hot or exercising. But with hyperhidrosis, these glands are overactive. It’s like your body’s cooling system is working overtime for no reason.

Why It Matters:

  • Excessive sweating can soak through clothes, making it hard to stay dry and comfortable. It can also make people feel self-conscious and affect their daily activities and social life.

How It Feels:

  • People with hyperhidrosis sweat a lot more than usual, especially in places like the underarms, hands, feet, or face. This can be really uncomfortable and embarrassing because it often happens at the wrong times, like during a meeting, at school, or when you’re just hanging out with friends.

Why Brella is Perfect for Hyperhidrosis:

After just one treatment, the SweatControl Patch effectively targets overactive sweat glands, significantly reducing sweat production and restoring your confidence and comfort. For more information on how it works, click here.

Am I a candidate for Brella treatment?

If you are an adult frequently troubled by excessive underarm sweating, even when not exercising or overheated, Brella may be the ideal solution for you.

Is Brella FDA-approved?

Yes, Brella is the first and only FDA-cleared SweatControl Patch specifically designed to significantly reduce excessive underarm sweating caused by primary axillary hyperhidrosis after just one in-office treatment. In clinical trials, Brella demonstrated proven effectiveness, safety, and high tolerability, reducing sweat production by 50% while enhancing confidence and daily living.

Who is not eligible for Brella treatment?

Certain individuals are not eligible for Brella treatment, including:

  • Children or adolescents with excessive underarm sweating.1
  • Adults with excessive sweating related to other medical conditions or affecting areas other than the underarms.
  • Adults with active skin irritation, infections, abrasions, nicks, or cuts at the treatment site.

Additionally, please inform your doctor if you have shaved your underarms within the last 48 hours.

How long do the effects of Brella last?

Brella has been shown to significantly reduce excessive underarm sweating after a single treatment, with results typically lasting three to four months, and potentially longer for some individuals. In our clinical study, certain participants experienced results extending beyond four months.

Is this product suitable for all skin types?

Yes, Brella is effective for all skin types and has been proven to be safe and well-tolerated.

Is Brella for anyone? (age, gender, race, ethnicity)
Brella is intended for adults of all skin types who are consistently troubled by excessive underarm sweating, even when not exercising or overheated.
What happens during a Brella treatment?

The Brella SweatControl Patch features a sodium-infused sheet with an adhesive backing. When applied to the underarm, the sodium interacts with the moisture in your sweat, generating heat. This heat specifically targets the sweat glands in your underarm to significantly reduce sweat production.

What is the duration of a Brella procedure?

Brella is a quick, comfortable, and straightforward in-office treatment. Each underarm treatment takes up to three minutes, with one underarm being treated at a time.

What sensations can I expect during the procedure?

During the procedure, you may experience a warming sensation in the treated area over time. Additionally, you might feel some stinging, tingling, or other sensations that may become more noticeable as the treatment progresses. These sensations indicate that the Patch is interacting with your sweat and that the treatment is effective. In our clinical study, patients treated with Brella reported an average discomfort level of 2.4 on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 represents minimal discomfort.

What side effects might I expect following the treatment?

Brella is safe and generally well-tolerated. You may experience minor redness or irritation related to the treatment, which usually resolves immediately after the procedure. Some patients may also experience tenderness or sensitivity that can last up to 48 hours.

How long does it take to see results from the treatment?

Many patients begin to see results within a few days. It is important to note that while this treatment significantly reduces excessive underarm sweating, it does not eliminate sweating entirely. You may still experience sweating in your underarms during exercise or in hot and humid conditions.

How will Brella impact my day? How will it make me feel?

After a single treatment, patients often report a significant boost in confidence, with reduced feelings of frustration and embarrassment. Additionally, decreased sweat production may result in fewer showers per day, lower dry-cleaning costs, reduced frequency of antiperspirant application, less need to replace stained clothing, and fewer instances of carrying extra changes of clothes.

What steps should I take to prepare for my Brella treatment?

To prepare for your Brella treatment, please follow these steps:

  1. Shave or clip your underarms at least 48 hours before your appointment.
  2. On the day of the treatment, wear loose-fitting clothing, such as a tank top.
  3. Ensure you stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  4. If possible, avoid applying deodorant or antiperspirant before your appointment.
Is there any downtime associated with this treatment, and can I resume normal activities immediately afterward?

There is no downtime required after a Brella treatment.

If sweating is reduced in one area, will there be an increase in sweating in another area?

This phenomenon, known as compensatory sweating, is a common side effect of treatments for excessive sweating. In our study, this occurred in only one patient, indicating that it is not expected to be a frequent side effect. However, it is a possibility. Since the results from a Brella SweatControl Patch treatment are temporary, any compensatory sweating that might occur is also expected to be temporary.

When can I resume using deodorant or antiperspirant, or shave again?

You may resume your usual hair removal, deodorant, or antiperspirant routines after the treatment. However, if your underarms feel irritated or tender, it is advisable to wait until these symptoms subside before resuming these activities.
